Vera Refund Policy

Effective date: 2026-05-25 Last updated: 2026-07-17

This Refund Policy describes how billing, credits, cancellation, and refunds work for the Vera prediction-markets data API ("Vera" or the "Service"), operated by Decentral Media Inc. ("Company," "we," "us"). It is incorporated into and forms part of the Vera Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.

We have tried to make this short and unambiguous. Where the Terms and this Policy describe the same thing, this Policy controls on the specifics of refunds.

1. How Billing Works

The Service is offered under several plans, described on the Vera pricing page. In short:

  • Free plan. No payment method and no charge. There is nothing to refund.
  • Prepaid credit packs. A one-time charge that adds prepaid credits to your account. Credits are delivered on successful payment. As stated below, prepaid credits are non-refundable except for a billing error or where a refund is required by law.
  • Subscription. Billed in advance through Stripe on the cadence shown at checkout. Unless a promotional trial is expressly offered at sign-up, the first charge is processed immediately when you subscribe. Each subsequent charge is processed on the recurring anniversary of the first charge. You receive a receipt by email for every successful charge.

Current prices are those published on the Vera pricing page at the time of purchase, plus any applicable tax calculated by Stripe Tax.

2. Cancelling

You can cancel a subscription anytime:

  • From the customer dashboard, by clicking "Cancel subscription," or
  • By emailing vera@cryptobriefing.com from the email on file for the account.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period: no further charges will be made, and your paid access continues through the end of the period you have already paid for. After that, the account reverts to the free plan and any prepaid credit balance remains available.

We do not require a reason, we do not have a retention call, and we do not require you to explain yourself. We do read every cancellation reply, and if you write down why, it genuinely helps us.

3. No Proration on the Current Period

When you cancel, the current paid period is not refunded and not prorated. If you cancel partway through a billing period, you keep paid access through the remaining days of that period, and the period's fee is not refunded in whole or in part. One-time credit-pack purchases are likewise final.

This is deliberate: Vera is a low-priced product and per-day proration would make billing administration more expensive than the refunds themselves. The two situations where we do refund are set out in Sections 4 and 5.

4. Service-Failure Refund

If Vera fails to deliver core service for more than 72 cumulative hours in a single calendar billing month, you are entitled to a prorated refund of that month's subscription fee corresponding to the period during which core service was unavailable.

The mechanics:

  1. "Core service" means the ability of an authenticated client with available credits to retrieve a current event record from the documented production endpoints. Planned maintenance announced at least 48 hours in advance is excluded.
  2. Outages are measured against our internal monitoring and request logs. If you believe core service was unavailable, include the affected timestamps (and any request_id values from failed calls) in your refund request; we will reconcile your report against our logs in good faith and round any disputed boundary in your favor.
  3. The refund is calculated as: (monthly subscription fee) × (downtime hours in excess of 72) ÷ (total hours in the billing month). We round in the customer's favor.
  4. You must request the refund by emailing vera@cryptobriefing.com within 60 days of the end of the affected billing month. We will process the refund to the original payment method within 10 business days of confirming the calculation.
  5. This refund is the sole and exclusive remedy under this Policy for downtime. It does not affect remedies you may have under the Terms for other types of breach.

5. Billing-Error Refund

If you are charged in error — including a duplicate charge, a charge processed after a confirmed cancellation, a charge at the wrong price, or a charge to the wrong account — we will refund the full erroneous amount.

Email vera@cryptobriefing.com with the date, amount, and a description of the error. We will investigate and, where confirmed, refund within 5 business days. We will also tell you what went wrong and what we are doing to prevent it from happening again.

6. What Is Not Refundable

Outside of Sections 4 and 5, fees are non-refundable. Specifically and without limitation, we do not refund:

  • Prepaid credits or one-time credit-pack purchases.
  • The current paid period when you cancel partway through (see Section 3).
  • Periods in which you used the Service less than expected, including periods in which you forgot to cancel and did not call the API at all.
  • Charges that have been disputed through a chargeback that we have already won.

7. Chargebacks

If you believe a charge is incorrect, please contact us first at vera@cryptobriefing.com. We will respond within one business day and, where the charge is in fact erroneous, refund it directly under Section 5 — that is faster and simpler for both of us than going through your card network.

You agree that you will not initiate a chargeback with your card issuer or bank without first contacting us and giving us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue. Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us is a material breach of the Terms and may result in:

  • Immediate termination of the account under Section 11 of the Terms;
  • Forfeiture of any promotional or grandfathered pricing, with no ability to re-subscribe at that price;
  • Recovery of the disputed amount, plus any chargeback fees imposed on us by the card network or by Stripe.

Where we believe a chargeback is fraudulent or filed in bad faith, we will contest it through Stripe's dispute process and provide the relevant evidence.

8. Account and Signup Abuse

The free plan and its allowances are offered once per person or organization. Creating multiple accounts to multiply free allowances, evade limits, or otherwise defeat commercial controls — including by using different email addresses, payment methods, or corporate entities under common control — is a violation of the Terms and may result in immediate termination of all related accounts and forfeiture of any promotional or grandfathered pricing.

9. Currency, Taxes, and Refund Mechanics

All charges and refunds are denominated in U.S. dollars. If your card is denominated in another currency, your bank's exchange rate at the time of the original charge and at the time of the refund may differ; we refund the U.S. dollar amount originally charged and are not responsible for currency fluctuations.

Refunds are issued to the original payment method through Stripe. If the original payment method is no longer valid, we will work with you to identify an acceptable alternative; in some cases, this may require additional verification.

Where Stripe collected sales tax, VAT, or GST at the time of the original charge, the refund will include a proportional refund of that tax.
