Vera Refund Policy

Effective date: 2026-05-25 Last updated: 2026-05-25

This Refund Policy describes how billing, the trial period, cancellation, and refunds work for the Vera prediction-markets data API ("Vera" or the "Service"), operated by Decentral Media Inc. ("Company," "we," "us"). It is incorporated into and forms part of the Vera Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.

We have tried to make this short and unambiguous. Where the Terms and this Policy describe the same thing, this Policy controls on the specifics of refunds.

1. The 7-Day Free Trial

New accounts start with a 7-day free trial of the full Founding tier.

Card on file, no charge until the trial ends. A valid payment method is required to enroll. Stripe verifies the card at sign-up, but no charge is made at sign-up or during the trial. For accounts enrolled before the Service launches, the trial begins on the day the Service launches (we will notify you by email when it does); for accounts created after launch, the trial begins at sign-up. The first subscription charge is processed at the start of the eighth day after the trial begins, in the timezone of your Stripe customer record. Until that moment, you can cancel by emailing support@vera.cryptobriefing.com and you will not be billed at all.

We use a card-on-file trial rather than a no-card trial because it is the standard Stripe subscription-with-trial pattern, it cuts down on bot signups, and it means the transition to a paid subscription at the end of the trial is seamless for you.

You may cancel during the trial at any time, for any reason, with no charge and no obligation.

2. After the Trial: Monthly Subscription

Once the trial converts, the Service is billed monthly in advance at the Founding Rate of US$100 per month (or your then-current rate), plus any applicable tax calculated by Stripe Tax, plus any overage fees accrued under Section 5 of the Terms.

Each subsequent charge is processed on the monthly anniversary of the first charge. You will receive a receipt by email for every successful charge.

3. Cancelling

You can cancel anytime:

Cancellation takes effect immediately for billing purposes: no further charges will be made. Your API access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.

We do not require a reason, we do not have a retention call, and we do not require you to explain yourself. We do read every cancellation reply, and if you write down why, it genuinely helps us.

4. No Proration on the Current Month

When you cancel, the current month is not refunded and not prorated. If you cancel on day 3 of a billing month, you keep API access through the remaining days of that month, and the month's fee is not refunded in whole or in part.

This is deliberate. Vera is a low-priced subscription product and per-day proration would make billing administration more expensive than the refunds themselves. The two situations where we do refund are set out in Sections 5 and 6.

5. Service-Failure Refund

If Vera fails to deliver core service for more than 72 cumulative hours in a single calendar billing month, you are entitled to a prorated refund of that month's subscription fee corresponding to the period during which core service was unavailable.

The mechanics:

  1. "Core service" means the ability of an authenticated, in-quota client to retrieve a current event record from the documented production endpoints. Planned maintenance announced at least 48 hours in advance is excluded.
  2. Outages are measured against our internal monitoring and request logs. If you believe core service was unavailable, include the affected timestamps (and any request_id values from failed calls) in your refund request; we will reconcile your report against our logs in good faith and round any disputed boundary in your favor.
  3. The refund is calculated as: (monthly fee) × (downtime hours in excess of 72) ÷ (total hours in the billing month). We round in the customer's favor.
  4. You must request the refund by emailing support@vera.cryptobriefing.com within 60 days of the end of the affected billing month. We will process the refund to the original payment method within 10 business days of confirming the calculation.
  5. This refund is the sole and exclusive remedy under this Policy for downtime. It does not affect remedies you may have under the Terms for other types of breach.

6. Billing-Error Refund

If you are charged in error — including a duplicate charge, a charge processed after a confirmed cancellation, a charge at the wrong rate, or a charge to the wrong account — we will refund the full erroneous amount.

Email support@vera.cryptobriefing.com with the date, amount, and a description of the error. We will investigate and, where confirmed, refund within 5 business days. We will also tell you what went wrong and what we are doing to prevent it from happening again.

7. What Is Not Refundable

Outside of Sections 5 and 6, fees are non-refundable. Specifically and without limitation, we do not refund:

  • The current month when you cancel partway through (see Section 4).
  • Months in which you used the Service less than expected, including months in which you forgot to cancel and did not call the API at all.
  • Overage charges that you incurred, including overages that were the result of misconfiguration in your own client.
  • Charges that have been disputed through a chargeback that we have already won.

8. Chargebacks

If you believe a charge is incorrect, please contact us first at support@vera.cryptobriefing.com. We will respond within one business day and, where the charge is in fact erroneous, refund it directly under Section 6 — that is faster and simpler for both of us than going through your card network.

You agree that you will not initiate a chargeback with your card issuer or bank without first contacting us and giving us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue. Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us is a material breach of the Terms and may result in:

  • Immediate termination of the account under Section 11 of the Terms;
  • Forfeiture of the Founding Rate, with no ability to re-subscribe at that rate;
  • Recovery of the disputed amount, plus any chargeback fees imposed on us by the card network or by Stripe.

Where we believe a chargeback is fraudulent or filed in bad faith, we will contest it through Stripe's dispute process and provide the relevant evidence.

9. Trial Abuse

The trial is offered once per organization and once per payment method. Opening multiple trial accounts to extend the trial — including by using different email addresses, payment methods, or corporate entities under common control — is a violation of Section 4 of the Terms and may result in immediate termination of all related accounts and forfeiture of any then-current Founding Rate.

10. Currency, Taxes, and Refund Mechanics

All charges and refunds are denominated in U.S. dollars. If your card is denominated in another currency, your bank's exchange rate at the time of the original charge and at the time of the refund may differ; we refund the U.S. dollar amount originally charged and are not responsible for currency fluctuations.

Refunds are issued to the original payment method through Stripe. If the original payment method is no longer valid, we will work with you to identify an acceptable alternative; in some cases, this may require additional verification.

Where Stripe collected sales tax, VAT, or GST at the time of the original charge, the refund will include a proportional refund of that tax.
